Dundas Valley Conservation Area Social Distancing

Date hiked: March 2020
Area: Dundas Valley Conservation Area
Bruce Trail distance: 3.0 km
Difficulty: Easy
Terrain: Hilly, but wide trails
Parking: We parked in a lot off Artabalan Rd, managed by the Hamilton Conservation.

For our first hike of 2020, we headed to the Dundas area. We knew going up north would have treacherous roads, so we decided to head down towards Niagara for our hikes this season. We need a strategy on how to do day hikes up north, now that it will take over an hour to drive to a hike.

When we asked the girls how long they wanted to hike for, their answers ranged from 5 km to 10 km (from YD). I don’t think she knows how long 10 km is! We ended up doing a loop from the south-east side of Dundas Valley Conservation all the way to the Hermitage ruins where we had a late lunch.

It was a chilly hike, but we saw lots of people also “social distancing” themselves from COVID-19 on the trails. It’s nice that people are getting out for fresh air, and I pray that this coronavirus pandemic will subside soon. On the bright side, it’s teaching me a lot about slowing down life as most of our activities are being canceled.

Anyway, the trail was very kid friendly as it is gravel paved. There are just a lot of hills! The view wasn’t that lovely yet as the snow has mostly melted, so it was muddy and brown.

Perhaps this extended March Break will result in some more hikes! We don’t winter hike very often, but technically, we did this before the first day of spring, so it counts as winter hiking!
